The Joy of Friendship

I spent a good portion of my day on Wednesday with my friend Michal Magee. We taught together several years ago. Michal, retired for four years, is now substitute teaching and tutoring part time. It was wonderful to be myself and be totally accepted. We talked for hours. Michal is such a good listener and talks about interesting things. Lunch was at a Chinese Restraunt followed by shopping at Hobby Lobby. Michal makes beautiful jewlery that she will sell at a club fundraiser. Joan, her little dog, abounds with energy and affection. It was fun petting and watching her. I thank God for my dear friend, Michal. Friends make me feel complete. I am refreshed to take up my tasks as a mother, wife, and whole person.

Volunteering

Today I got out of the house and volunteered at the hospital. I love my home and family but I needed to get out and do something else as well. I get depressed and very unhappy unless I reach outside of my own house for some of my fulfillment. My passions and creatively just aren’t released while I complete household chores.

I finished a major photocopying project for the human resources department in the morning. Creative? My passion? No! But a change of scenery was welcome just the same. Being with other adults is a plus as well. I like the dark blue jacket and picture name tag I get to wear as a volunteer.

In the afternoon I went through training with another volunteer. We learned about all the important issues dealing with working in a hospital. My dad was the instructor and he did a wonderful job. I wasn’t able to get my TB test as there was a question that one or more of my immunizations for my India trip involved a live virus vaccine. If so I could get a false positive.

Off and on today, I have pondered the loss of the Steve Irwin. Visit my other blog to view my ponderings.

New Baby Puppies

My sister Linnaea let me baby-sit her two adult Maltese dogs. The female, Susie came with five little one-week old babies. It was so much fun taking care of the extra dogs. Our dog Bella learned quickly she could only come so close to the litter. The “nursery” is a small wading pool. Michael crawled in and cuddled with the little family. More puppy pictures are on my photo album.

The United States Map

Try this challenge. I'm sad to say I wasn't able to complete it in time. I am going to have to study the United State map again. Maybe you can beat the time. Good Luck Please let me know how you did.

Bell Family Reunion

David and Michelle were able to attend the Bell family reunion. Fun games were added to good food and visiting. Michelle is shown here playing Hillybilly Golf. An auction was held to defray the cost of the expenses of the reunion. Check out the picture album for more pictures of this event.

South Dakota Fishing Trip

David, Michael and Sean joined John's family in South Dakota in July. John, Ryan and our guys spent their time fishing and swimming. They enjoyed frying fish and potatoes and for some meals barbequed. Amy, Dana and Sherry stayed in the big house with Grandpa Henning. The guys slept in the lake house. Sometimes girls visited the lake house and relaxed with the guys. Sean is shown here with a northern pike that David caught. More pictures of this event are found in the photo album. See the link on the sidebar.

Passport - Shots - Garage Sale

Michael's Passport came today. When mine comes I will send them both to get visas stamped in them for India.

This week we plan to get our shots. Ouch! Better that than coming down with typhoid or other nasty illnesses.

We are having a garage sale this week to help finance our trip. My sister Linnaea is also having a garage sale to help us pay for our trip and my parents are contributing items for our sales. Busy, busy, busy......
